SOUTHWEST ASIA, Aug. 27, 2016 — U.S. and coalition military forces continued to attack Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant terrorists in Syria and Iraq yesterday, Combined Joint Task Force Operation Inherent Resolve officials reported today.

Officials reported details of yesterday’s strikes, noting that assessments of results are based on initial reports.

UPDATE: US Marine aircraft down in UK
10/21/2015 11:13 AM CDTA 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing F/A-18C Hornet belonging to Marine Attack Fighter Squadron 232 stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar crashed in the vicinity of Royal Air Force Lakenheath, England at approximately 5:30 a.m. (EDT), today.

The Marine Corps officially confirmed the death of the pilot, but it is unknown at this time if the pilot ejected from the single-seat aircraft.

The aircraft was transiting from Bahrain to Miramar in a flight of six aircraft when it crashed approximately six miles northwest of the airfield. The remaining five F/A-18C’s safely diverted to RAF Lossiemouth. The United Kingdom Coast Guard is currently on the scene of the crash site and is in close coordination with U.S. military officials.

Soldier Missing from Korean War Accounted For


The Department of Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) announced today that the remains of a U.S. soldier, missing from the Korean War, have been identified and will be returned to his family for burial with full military honors.

 

Army Cpl. Francis D. Knobel of La Crosse, Wisconsin, will be buried May 21, in Arlington National Cemetery. In December 1950, Knobel was a member of Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division, operating along the eastern side of the Chosin Reservoir in North Korea. On Dec. 12, 1950, following the battle, Knobel was one of many men reported missing in action.

DoD Identifies Air Force Casualty

The Department of Defense announced today the death of an airman who was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

Tech. Sgt. Anthony E. Salazar, 40, of Hermosa Beach, California, died April 13, at an air base in southwest Asia in a non-combat related incident. The incident is under investigation.

He was assigned to the 577th Expeditionary Prime Base Engineer Emergency Force Squadron, 1st Expeditionary Civil Engineer Group, U.S. Air Forces Central Command.

Col. Edward Sholtis, a spokesman for U.S. Air Forces Central Command told Air Force Times Salazar was a mechanical systems repairman, whose job was to ensure facility operations at an air base in the Gulf region that is supporting operations against Islamic State militants.

Anti-ISIL Forces Make Progress in Iraq, Syria

WASHINGTON, April 17, 2015 – Iraqi security forces and coalition partners are making progress in Operation Inherent Resolve’s fight against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant, a U.S. Central Command official told reporters here today.

Anti-ISIL forces are performing, as predicted, Centcom spokesman Air Force Col. Patrick Ryder told reporters here during what is expected to be a weekly operational update teleconference on the campaigns in Iraq and Syria against the extremist group.
